Spin (Darren Hayes album)
Spin is the first solo album from the ex-Savage Garden member Darren Hayes. The album was mixed by Chris Lord-Alge and produced by Walter Afanasieff. It was released in Australia in March 2002 and reached the rest of the world later that year. The album has sold 4 million copies as of 2009.
Music
Darren Hayes, continuing the trend from his years as Savage Garden's frontman, addresses romance on almost every track on the album. Walter Afanasieff, who had already worked on Savage Garden's Affirmation, produced the majority of the tracks on the album. Other producers include Greg Bieck, Rick Nowels and Robert Conley. Walter Afanasieff produces five of the twelve tracks on the original releases ("Insatiable", "Heart Attack", "Dirty", "Good Enough" and the title track "Spin"). Bieck produces "Strange Relationship" and "I Miss You". Nowels produces "Creepin' Up on You", "I Can't Ever Get Enough of You", "Like It or Not" and "What You Like". Conley produces "Crush (1980 Me)".
Singles
- "Insatiable" became the first single in January 2002, and was a hit in several places across the globe. Some consider this song to be Hayes' signature song.
- "Strange Relationship" followed in June, but was not a hit like its predecessor. The single also contained a cover of Marvin Gaye's song "Sexual Healing", Hayes' second cover of a song by the artist, having participated in the 2001 Artists Against AIDS Worldwide recording of the song.
- "Crush (1980 Me)" was the third single in Australia, released in September 2002. It contained a mash-up of the song with Madonna's 1983 single "Holiday", which was also given airplay. The single was later released as the fourth UK single in January 2003 and in Europe in April 2003.
- "I Miss You" followed in November 2002 as the third single in the UK. It was later released as the fourth and final Australian single in February 2003, however a remix of the song by Dallas Austin was the main airplay and video version there.
